
Helen Conrad B.Sc., LL.B. (Hons) – Lawyer
Helen Conrad is an intellectual property (IP) and commercial lawyer. She has an
outstanding academic record, having graduated from Monash University with degrees
in Law (first class honours) and Science (majoring in psychology). Helen joined
mdp McDonald Partners from top tier legal firm Mallesons Stephen Jaques.
Helen assists clients to identify, protect and commercialise IP rights, particularly
trade mark, copyright and related brand assets. Helen also advises on general commercial
issues related to IP rights, including corporate structuring, licensing, commercial
agreements and competition law issues.
Helen also provides legal advice in relation to the growing field of environmental
or green marketing, which encompasses IP and trade practices law. Her green marketing
legal advice includes trade mark selection, domestic and international brand protection
strategy, packaging review and advertising clearance.
Helen has significant experience in IP and brand protection litigation, with litigation
experience in the Federal Court and the High Court of Australia. Significantly,
Helen worked on the protection of Cadbury’s ‘purple’ trade mark and on protecting
copyright material in Sensis’ Yellow Pages directories.
Helen works with a range of clients including in the manufacturing, energy, engineering,
professional services, design, entertainment, food and wine industries.
Her recent work of note includes:
- Working with clients to overcome objections and oppositions to trade mark applications within Australia and internationally.
- Managing the protection and enforcement of the Infratil group’s Victoria Electricity, Lumo Energy and Moving Tracker brands.
- Advising on IP and technology license and supply agreements in the telecommunications, construction, engineering and design sectors.
- Managing the worldwide trade mark portfolio for a leading homewares manufacturer, including packaging review and advice on green marketing issues.
- Managing the worldwide trade mark portfolio of a well known Australian entertainer and fashion designer.
