On 12 December, mdp Directors Sarah Gilkes and Michael McDonald and mdp Lawyer Jacqueline Plunkett hosted an executive team from IP Australia comprising of General Managers, Supervising Examiners, Team Leaders and Patent and Trademark Examiners. The team visited as part of IP Australia’s ongoing commitment to stakeholder engagement and building on the quality of their services and products. The team sought mdp’s feedback on eServices, the firm’s experiences with the office and recent developments in intellectual property (IP).
Michael provided an overview and introduction of mdp Law and our IP and commercialisation practice, as well as insight into client views of our local IP system and the general need for better public education. Jacqueline, with input from Gavin Doherty, mdp Patent Attorney, outlined a list of concerns and suggestions for improvement of IT, Examiner/Hearings practice and regulatory reform.
The IP Australia team also presented on the new ATMOSS testing system, as well as IT projects such as RIO and other projects to help small to medium enterprises, such as IP insurance and alternative dispute resolution panel initiatives. Overall, it was a very positive and productive conversation and the start of an ongoing relationship.
