Patents

We love to ‘get our hands dirty’—we work best when we can delve into your business to understand your innovations.

We are passionate about your innovations and ensuring you develop and realise the greatest commercial value for your intellectual property assets.

Our point of difference is that we provide integrated patent advisory and protection services. We look at patentable ideas alongside your intellectual property portfolio and in conjunction with the broader commercial considerations for your business.

We have significant experience assisting our clients to fully exploit their intellectual assets in both a risk- and tax-effective manner through corporate structuring. Whether you are seeking to apply for, defend, enforce or commercialise a patent, locally or internationally, we will guide your business through every step of the process.

Our People

Our Patent and Trade Mark Attorneys practice is led by Gavin Doherty, who has more than two decades of experience in domestic and international patent applications.

Gavin is regarded as one of Australia’s foremost patent attorneys, having managed the world-renowned intellectual property portfolios for two of Australia’s most innovative companies, Cochlear Limited and Orbital Engine Company. He was also a patent examiner with the Australian Patent Office. This experience gave him a unique insight into the inner workings of the Patent Office and its policies, which maximises the potential of obtaining effective and enforceable patent rights for clients. With mechanical engineering qualifications, Gavin is a rare breed of patent attorney who is across both technical and commercial issues.
